Kid Friendly Super Bowl Celebration from Home

We’ve all had our fair share of challenges with learning to stay in our homes ever since 2020’s Coronavirus began spreading. In fact, most of us are just flat out tired of hearing about it. Many of us have learned to work from home, conducted school from home, worked out from home or have been quarantined in our homes at one point or another. As we step into another year, my personal resolution is to stop putting my life on hold, even if that means…I do it from home.

Luckily, the Super Bowl is an American tradition that is often celebrated from home as it is. I’ve come up with some creative ideas on how to keep your watch party running smoothly while also keeping the kiddos entertained and in the football spirit:

  • Invite everyone with littles ones over an hour before kickoff. Why? Kids of all ages do best when they have time to warm up to a new place. Having everyone over only minutes before the game begins is chaotic and almost begs for many interruptions and frustrations after the ball snaps.

  • Consider designating an area of your home as a quiet space if you are having infants or toddlers over. An empty bedroom for smaller kids to nap and/or nurse in is the ultimate act of love for parents! Even better, inside the quiet room include a tv playing the Super Bowl (with the volume turned down, of course) so no one has to miss out! I cannot tell you how many hours of my life I have spent laying down a child for a nap while being away from the main event.

  • Involve the kids by having a football scavenger hunt. Use construction paper or print off some footballs to hide several around the house. It doesn’t need to be fancy to be fun! Pro tip: assign different areas of the house to different ages of the children. Trust me, this will save many fights from breaking out with older kids finding all of the footballs before the little ones can even lift a finger. You can host this activity every time a team scores, during half time, during commercials, really whenever works best for your group. Prize packs can be given out (if you wish) in exchange for their football findings. Optional prizes: candy, stickers, glow sticks, play doh, etc

What about food? Include the same delicious foods that you always love to indulge in, but also serve some football team inspired beverages and dishes that both kids and adults will love! We suggest this quick and easy punch recipe:

Cincinnati Creamsicle Punch
Picture
Ingredients
2 Liter Orange Soda
2 Cans Cream Soda
1 QT Vanilla Ice Cream
Orange Slices
Directions
  1. Combine the sodas in a large punch bowl.
  2. Carefully add scoops of vanilla ice cream to the soda mixture. (This will cause the punch to foam and fizz.)
  3. Garnish with slices of orange
  4. Voila! Ready to serve.

Los Angeles Rams fan? Opt for a classic lemonade and garnish with fresh blueberries.

By following these super simple tips, you’ll be well on your way to hosting a fabulous Super Bowl party, fit for families of all ages!

Tell us who you’re rooting for during this year’s game, the Bengals or the Rams?
